What we collect

Newsletter: your email address, when you subscribe or verify access to a gated issue. It's sent to the service that delivers our newsletter, and used to manage that subscription. We also remember it on our own servers for a limited time once verified, so you're not asked to verify again on every visit.

Event submissions: the event details you submit, plus your name, email and organization if you fill those in. Used only to review and, if approved, publish the event — and to contact you about it if needed.

Site analytics: we use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. It works from our hosting server's logs, so nothing is installed in your browser, and it sets no cookies. It reports aggregate figures such as page views, unique visitors (counted by IP address), referring sites, and approximate location. We don't use it to identify or follow individual visitors, and we don't run any ad-tracking scripts.

Fonts: this site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google's servers, which see your IP address and browser details as part of that request. We don't send Google anything else.

We also keep a record of your IP address when you submit a form, used only to prevent spam and abuse — not to identify or track you otherwise. A small, strictly-necessary cookie remembers that you've already verified a newsletter subscription, so you're not asked twice. It isn't used for tracking. If any of this changes, we'll update this page.

Where it's stored

Event data lives in a hosted Postgres database. Newsletter subscriptions live with the service that delivers our newsletter; the verified-email record and the IP addresses mentioned above are kept with our hosting provider, Netlify. As of now, none of this is shared with any other third party, sold, or used for advertising. Traffic statistics are processed by Netlify as part of serving this site.
